Last September we debuted Ocean of Pseudoscience week with resounding success. We covered issues ranging from greenwashing, to bone-eating creationism, to iron fertilization, to maximum sustainable yield, all while counting down our favorite see monsters (most imagined, some real). We’re a bit late this year (it turns out the beginning of the semester isn’t the best time to pump out 30 posts in a week), but Ocean of Pseudoscience will return on October 3, 2011. Get ready for a week of oil spill myths, misunderstood marine life, cryptozoology, and ecotoxicology misconceptions. Our anthropomorphic friends from Deep Fried Sea will be coming along for the ride. We’ll see you then!

Amy is a graduate student in North Carolina studying local ecological knowledge within small scale fisheries. 
Chuck is a graduate student in North Carolina focusing on apex predators and how they interact with fisheries. 
Lyndell is a graduate student in North Carolina, studying the feeding ecology of cownose rays. 
Iris is a graduate student in Washington studying habitat use and feeding habits of juvenile Pacific salmon and herring in Puget Sound. 
Michael is a graduate student in Maryland investigating the visual systems of mantis shrimp. |
