The 3QuarksDaily science writing contest, a prestigious online writing competition, has entered the public voting phase. One Southern Fried Science post has been nominated- Back from the Brink: Victories in Conservation (which can be viewed here) . That post, co-written by Andrew and I, tells the story of an important scientific paper that showed both empirically and through numerous anecdotes that conservation efforts do make a difference in the protection of threatened and endangered species. In addition to summarizing the global biodiversity crisis, the post also explains what conservation policies work and why they work. It was the first post co-written by the two of us, and was my first experience dealing with a media embargo on an important scientific paper. I’m very proud of it and I’m glad it’s representing us in the 3QuarksDaily contest.

To vote for Back from the Brink, go the the 3QuarksDaily voting page (here) , scroll down until you get to “Southern Fried Science”: Back from the Brink: Victories in Conservation”, click the circle next to that post, scroll to the bottom of the list, and click “vote”.
