Light bulbs on the Colbert Report

Last year, we wrote about the bizarre “save the light bulb” movement. The issue hasn’t gone away. Far Right politicians continue to actively resist energy efficiency. This Wednesday’s episode of the Colbert Report covered the light bulb “controversy”.

What about the mercury content in the curly cue bulbs? What happens years from now when millions of them are in our landfills all around the country?

    We ran the math: http://www.southernfriedscience.com/?p=7861

CFL’s will release less mercury over their life than a comparable CFL.

I’m still baffled by the easy bake oven bit. The law applies to incandescent bulbs used for light. You’ll still be able to buy incandescent heat lamps for your baby chicks, reptiles, keeping your well pump from freezing, and yes, even your easy bake oven.
