Return of the light bulbs?

Two weeks ago, I mentioned the strange “save the light bulb” movement, prompting Andrew to write an excellent analysis refuting their central claim. For some reason, this issue is really bothering conservatives and it just won’t go away.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) is facing a tough re-election battle against tea party backed Sharron Angle. This week, the Las Vegas Review-Journal endorsed Angle. It isn’t surprising that Vegas, one of the hardest-hit cities during the present economic crisis, is unsatisfied with their current leadership. Here’s what caught my attention in the endorsement:

“For the past two years, Sen. Reid has been a water boy for the Obama White House, which is pushing perhaps the most radical liberal agenda in the country’s history….He has encouraged the explosion of a bureaucracy that now tells us what types of light bulbs we may use” (Emphasis mine. You can read the entire editorial here if you’re curious)

If one of the leaders of the Democratic party loses an election to an extremist and one of the reasons is light bulbs, I may seriously consider moving to Canada.

Haha “the most radical liberal agenda.”

Riight. Because the healthcare overhaul was really radically liberal, what with its public option. Oh wait…

I think the phrase they’re looking for is “moderate-conservative.”

    • Didn’t they just spend the last 10 years or so chasing all the moderates out of the Republican party?

  • Andrew’s post is a really nice refutation of the light bulb issue, except he’s refuting the wrong issue. The tea baggers don’t really care about mercury in the environment. They care about big gummint takin’ away mah freedomz!!!!! That’s what the light bulb issue is really about. How dare Obama – who is really a secret kenyan muslim illegal alien socialist – tell me what kinda light bulb I can use in my home?????!?!?!?!? Freedomz!!!!!!
